This Shabbat, just before Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, provides a great opportunity to reflect on the legacy of the civil rights struggle, the progress, and the many steps that remain incomplete. We will read and discuss some select writings of Abraham Joshua Heschel, one of the most visible Jewish religious participants with Dr. King in the 1965 march from Selma to Montgomery. To what extent do Heschel’s thoughts resonate with us? What do you think he might add today, were he still alive?
