This week’s Torah portion, Emor, mentions the Eternal Light (ner tamid) that was lit in the ancient tabernacle. Over thousands of years, the eternal light has become a central architectural motif of most synagogues. What was its meaning? How does it shed light (so to speak) on the needs of leaders, social movements and organizations today?
