Jewish, Alive and American
An adult learning opportunity for all who wish to learn more about Jewish roots, history, text and traditions; taught from a Reconstructionist perspective by student Rabbi Donna Kirshbaum.

Classes began meeting in October 2006, so call to reserve your place at 410-464-9402 or email info@beittikvah.org.

Meeting dates: Sundays, October 22, November 5 & 19, December 3 & 17, January 7 & 21, February 4 & 18, March 4 & 18, April 8 & 22, May 6 & 20

Time: 1:30 - 3:30 P.M.

Bring your - questions, big and small; intellectual curiosity and emotional connections; capacity to listen and grow.

Be prepared for - a stimulating leaning environment; crafting responses to ethical dilemmas and the challenges of Jewish life.

Open to - Jews of every background and upbringing, those considering Judaism, interested non-Jews

Time frame - bi-weekly Sunday classes, beginning Sunday, October 22 at 1:30 pm, continuing through the winter and spring.

Cost - free to members of Congregation Beit Tikvah; Book costs for all; $125 for non-members; first class free

Location - Congregation Beit Tikvah at First Christian Church, 5802 Roland Ave below Lake

Curriculum developed by the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. Headlines include:

  • Shabbat, prayer, kashrut, spirituality, theology and God-talk, year-cycle, life-cycle, role of the synagogue, Jewish communal life, tikkun olam (social action), state of Israel
  • "Practicums" to experience various ritual and holiday events
  • "Buddy connections" with members of Beit Tikvah for the planning B'nei Mitzvah or conversion
